Editorial Policy: How We Evaluate Products

Our criteria

Every generator and backup-power product is evaluated on five factors, in this order:

  • Power math: usable capacity in watt-hours, inverter output and surge headroom, checked against the real startup demands of fridges, furnace blowers and pumps.
  • Runtime and recharge honesty: how long the unit runs realistic loads and how fast it recharges from wall, solar and car charging.
  • Protection claims: EMP hardening, surge ratings, UPS switchover and battery chemistry, always labeled as manufacturer claims when they are.
  • Guarantee and company record: return terms, warranty, and how long the company has operated.
  • Price stability: whether the price we verified still holds when you click through.

Sources

Safety, nutrition and storage claims cite official sources such as Ready.gov/FEMA, CDC, USDA/FoodSafety.gov and NIH, linked next to the claim they support. Manufacturer claims (servings, shelf life, warranty) are always labeled as manufacturer or merchant claims. First-hand testing notes and photos are added only from actual use; we never invent experience.

Separation from commerce

Conclusions are written before commission terms are considered. We do not sell ratings or placements, and affiliate income never changes a verdict. See our affiliate disclosure for the money details.
